Eligibility & Referral Process
This program is open to all current and former Cumulus advertisers.
To be eligible for a reward, your referral must include a strong personal connection. That means you’re not simply submitting a name in the portal—you’re helping make the introduction, whether through a quick email, a call, or even a text to connect us.
Sharing a few words about your positive experience with Cumulus helps build trust and gets the relationship off to a strong start. Rewards are issued once the referral becomes a client, so the stronger the connection, the better the chance of success for everyone!
The referral must be a business that hasn’t advertised with Cumulus in the past 13 months.
And don’t forget: referrals must be submitted through the portal so we can track them properly.
Simply complete the referral form with your details and the business you’re referring. The referral must be submitted before the new business signs a campaign agreement.
To keep things fair, referrals need to be submitted before the new client signs their campaign agreement. Once that’s in place, we’re not able to retroactively apply rewards.
Only the first referral submitted and confirmed in the system will be eligible for the reward. Referrals are time-stamped and tracked to ensure fairness.
Yes! There’s no limit to how many businesses you can refer. You’ll be eligible for a reward each time a referred business meets the program criteria and becomes a client.
Yes! Cumulus operates in 80 markets across the country. You can refer businesses in any Cumulus market, not just your own.
Reward Options & Value
You can choose one of the following:
- Cash Bonus – 10% of the referred client’s billed campaign (up to the first 3 months)
- Bonus Advertising – 20% of the referred client’s billed campaign (up to the first 3 months), delivered as additional media value
- If the referred campaign is less than 3 months, you’ll receive your reward once full payment is received.
- If it’s 3 months or longer, you’ll be paid once payment for the first 90 days is collected.
- All cash rewards are paid as a one-time bonus.
You don’t have to decide right away! Once your referral becomes a qualified client and payment has been confirmed, your Cumulus rep will reach out so you can choose between the cash bonus or bonus advertising.
Yes! Here’s how your reward is calculated based on the referred client’s paid campaign value (up to the first 3 months):
2-Month Campaign
- The referred client runs a 2-month campaign totaling $8,000, fully paid.
- You receive:
- $800 cash bonus (10% of $8,000), or
- $1,600 advertising bonus (20% of $8,000 additional media value)
3-Month Campaign
- The referred client runs a 3-month campaign totaling $15,000, fully paid.
- You receive:
- $1,500 cash bonus, or
- $3,000 advertising bonus
6-Month Campaign
- The referred client runs a 6-month campaign totaling $30,000.
- Your reward is based on the first 3 months only (let’s say $15,000 paid).
- You receive:
- $1,500 cash bonus, or
- $3,000 advertising bonus
We hope every referral turns into a long-term success, but if the referred business cancels early or doesn’t complete the qualifying portion of their campaign, the reward won’t be issued.
Rewards are only given once the eligible spend has been billed and paid in full.
If the client completes at least one month of their campaign and that portion is paid in full, you’ll still receive a reward based on what was billed and collected, even if they cancel before the full campaign runs.
The reward will reflect the actual paid amount from up to the first 3 months, not the originally planned spend.
Payment & Timing
- If the referred business runs a campaign under 3 months, your reward will be issued after full payment for that campaign is received by Cumulus.
- If the campaign is 3 months or longer, your reward will be issued once Cumulus receives full payment for the first 90 days.
- All rewards are processed as a one-time payout (no monthly installments).
Please note: To receive your reward, any required paperwork (such as a W-9 or payment form) must also be completed and submitted.
You can choose to receive your reward via check or ACH direct deposit. Once your referral qualifies and full payment has been received, your Cumulus representative will follow up to confirm your preferred payment method.
Cash rewards may be considered taxable income. If your total reward amount reaches or exceeds the IRS reporting threshold, we may request a completed W-9 form and issue a 1099 as required by law. Please consult your tax advisor with any questions.
Bonus Advertising Specifics
Yes — bonus advertising can be applied to any radio campaign. However, advertising value cannot be applied to digital campaigns.
Bonus advertising must be used within 90 days of being issued. Cash bonuses are paid directly via your preferred method once eligibility is confirmed and full payment has been collected.

Our team will reach out to the referred business. If they become a Cumulus advertiser and meet the campaign criteria, you’ll be eligible to receive your chosen reward.
Yes! Your Cumulus representative will follow up to confirm your referral’s status and coordinate your reward.
